DBI Spotted… The Mola Mola (Ocean Sunfish)

The best time to spot the Mola Mola is before or after the full moon. The Balinese mid March full moon, which was the largest and brightest of the year, bought with it this amazing fish which DBI and friends had the pleasure of diving with. The ocean sunfish (Mola mola) is the world’s heaviest known bony fish.

Reaching up to 3 metres from fin tip to fin tip, with the average adult weighting an incredible 1,000kg! It is found across the worlds tropical and temperate waters, resembling a fish head with a tail, and its main body is flattened laterally. Sunfish can be as tall as they are long when their dorsal and ventral fins are extended.
